Friends of the Newport ship

The Newport Ship was discovered under the banks of the River Usk during excavations to build the Riverfront Theatre in Newport in 2002. It is the most complete survival of a 15th Century ship anywhere and is one of the most significant maritime archaeological finds of recent times. The ship had to be dismantled to be rescued and over a decade of work has taken place cleaning, recording, studying and preserving the timbers and its contents. The aim is for the ship to be reassembled and put on public display. FoNS contribute vital financial and practical support to the project and raise public awareness of this remarkable discovery. Planet Wales is very proud to make a contribution through our tours to help FoNS achieve their aims.
